Saturday 6 December 1969 – Sunderland Nervous Yet Back to Winning Ways

After last week’s defeat it was a nervous Sunderland who took the field against Ipswich. Had they been found out? Will they ever win again? Well they did and will slowly regain their confidence. The league is there for them to lose. While poor Ipswich have only 1 point from their last 7 games.

Tottenham smashed 6 past a hapless Coventry at Highfield Road. That was Spurs’ 10th win in a row, and have scored 33 goals in those 10 games. Meanwhile Coventry lost again. They have only won 1 of their last 20 games.

Derby’s strong away win at Palace was their first win in 5. Crystal Palace suffered another home loss. They only 1 point from their last 3 home games.

Everton enjoyed a last minute winner in the Mersey derby after they gave away a two goal lead. It was their first home win in 6 games. Now Liverpool haven’t won in 6 games.

Leeds lost their second game in a row. It was their first home loss since the first game of the season. Between those two losses were 9 home games without loss. Wolves meanwhile had another great super win. That was 4 wins in a row, 6 games without a loss and leapt above Leeds into seventh spot.


Manchester United smashed Chelsea with a great Best hattrick. The win stopped their losing streak. That was Chelsea’s their away loss in a row. They have now conceded 13 goals in those 3 games.

Nottingham Forest has a surprise home loss to Sheffield Wednesday, only their third loss of the season, all of them at home. It was Wednesday’s 3rd win in a row and have reached mid table.

Stoke were in total control of the match, 2-1 up with 10 minutes to go. Yet it was Newcastle who ended up winners. Stoke have only had 3 home wins for the season. It was Newcastle’s second win in a row and 4 games without loss.

West Ham had a good win, their third on the trot and 6 without loss, while it was Manchester City’s first loss in 8 games.
