Derby County 0
Manchester United 3 (Best 4, 23, 35)
There are times when you don’t realise you’ve witnessed something special until much later. This match was the opposite: this was the game George Best decided to show the world how good he really is. At least in the first half. Best was mesmerizing. No one could stop him, it was man against boys. It seemed even his own side couldn’t keep up with what he was thinking. He rewarded himself with a hat trick before the end of the first half and effectively had finished the game even before he enjoyed a half time cup of tea.
As for Derby they were mere spectators in their own car accident in the first, and seriously concussed in the second. The day belonged to George Best.
